Recruitment

FAQs | Event Schedule | Interest Form

Formal recruitment is an exciting week that takes place in both the Spring and Fall. It is a time for men interested in Greek life to learn about the fraternities at Virginia Tech. Each fraternity has a unique culture which is why it is important to discover the best fit for you.

The strength of our brotherhood is second to none on campus. We do not mold new members but instead seek those who exemplify the qualities of a KDR Gentleman. Those that are lucky enough to join our fraternity participate in a wide variety of events as you can see by browsing our site. You will quickly learn that everything we do revolves around Virginia Tech; we bleed maroon and orange. If you are looking for an exciting and adventurous college career then you should definitely put KDR high on your list.

FAQs

What seems to be a simple question requires a not so simple answer. The benefits of our brotherhood are endless. With a diverse, but closely knit group of brothers you are certain to meet those who fit your personality. The ultimate benefit of KDR is the strong friendships you will build during your undergraduate years. These relationships will last you a lifetime. KDR will also help you personally. From extending your social network to gaining leadership experience, there is no doubt you will grow as an individual. But it does not stop there.

Many alumni are already benefiting from their fraternity experience and want to support undergraduates in their job search. And to make sure you are an eligible candidate we have a vast support system for students who may be struggling with grades. Older brothers are more than willing to help another in need of assistance. Check out the Active Brothers page to see the numerous majors that we are pursuing. Also the Scholarship page will give you more insight into our academic side. But do not let our strong track record fool you.

We know how to have a good time. You probably think you know what we are talking about but there are many incredible experiences that you can not even imagine. This website is a good place to start but for a true look, you must get to know our brothers.

We are strongly against all forms of hazing. Unfortunately, such activity does exist which is something you should be aware of. With KDR you will not have to worry about being put into an intimidating position or anything similar to that. As a new member, you are one of our future brothers and should be treated as such.

Our chapter, national, and university policies regarding hazing are taken very seriously. Should you have any questions or conerns please direct them to our President, Tim Huerth at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Contrary to what you may be thinking, brother's grades usually go up after joining! Beyond just a "social" fraternity, KDR is also a fraternity full of intelligent and hardworking men. One of our core values is to support and assist each other in any way possible including academics.

As an underclassmen, you will become friends with many people in the fraternity who have a significant amount of experience in what you are going through. These brothers are always more than willing to help with anything from preparing for a test or just homework in general.

This is a daunting question for many prospective members but it is a relatively straightforward process. Outlined below is each stage broken down with a simple explanation. Remember the most important part about recruitment is getting to know the brothers. These are the people who make the fraternity what it is so you want to get along with them well!

Greek Showcase 101 is the first event that is held by the Interfraternity Council (IFC, which is the governing body over all fraternities). At this event each fraternity will have a booth setup with general information to give out. Stop by our booth to find out about our planned recruitment events and meet some of our brothers.

On February 3rd we will start our formal recruitment events. These will include a variety of social activities open to anyone and everyone to allow you to see what our brotherhood is like. Typically we host about eight events over the course of the week and a half. It is a good idea to attend three or more events if you are serious about KDR.

The weekend of February 13th is closed rush. As the name implies only those potential new members who we invite are allowed to attend. By this point you should have a good idea what KDR is like and you will have learned more information about the fraternity. After this weekend we will decide who we want to extend a bid (invitation to join KDR). On Monday, September 21st all fraternities will distribute bids to men of their choosing.

It is possible that you will receive more than one bid. If this occurs then you must decide which fraternity you feel is the right fit for you. We ask that you discuss your thoughts with us before making a final decision. If money is an issue this is often something that we can work with you on. You must accept or decline your bid by February 16th. Another option is to defer your bid which gives you the option to accept it in the following semester.

Virginia Tech requires that all men interested in a fraternity registers on Hokie Spa. It is easy, free, and does not commit you to anything. First go to http://hokiespa.vt.edu then select HokieSpa -> Student Organizations Menu -> Fraternity Recruitment Registration.
